Girona is located in Catalonia, Spain and is around 100kms from the more popular destination of Barcelona. Girona is a very worthwhile destination in its own right and is a great place for a European City Break. The local airport is well served by budget airlines, including Ryanair, so why not take advantage and make Girona your next destination for a weekend away.
Air: Girona Airport (GRO) is 12kms from the south of the city. The airport has expanded rapidly following Ryanair's decision to have a hub here. Connections to either Girona or Barcelona are best made by bus. There is no train connection at the current time.

Rail: There is an hourly service between Barcelona and Girona and the service takes around 1 hour 20 minutes.
What to See and Do
Girona's numerous attractions include the following:
Cathedral: The present building was designed by the Majorcan architect Jaume Fabre and is a magnificent example of Gothic architecture. The Cathedral is approached by climbing 86 steps. Within the cathedral their are numerous tapestries including the "Tapestry of the Creation".
Old Town: Take a walk through the narrow atmospheric streets of the old city or along the river.
Pyrenees: . This mountain range runs along the border with France in the north of the country. During July each summer you may be lucky to catch a stage of The Tour de France which often crosses the border.
The best way to get around the compact centre of Girona is on your own two feet!
