Zagreb

Introduction

Zagreb is an increasingly popular location for tourists. Croatia is seen as a supberb value for money destination with access to great beaches and culture at great value prices. Getting there

Zagreb International Airport (ZAG) is 17kms south east of the city and is well served by European airlines including some budget carriers. There are other options including flights to Ljubljana (easyjet), and Pula, Klagenfurt and Graz (Ryanair)

From the airport there is a bus service that departs for the central bus station in Zagreb. Service level is every 30 mins.

Rail: Zagreb is a major European rail hub. You can connect from here to Budapest, Munich, Venice, Thessalonika and other destinations within the European rail network.

What to See and Do

Upper and Lower Towns: Gornji grad (Upper Town) and Donji grad (Lower Town) are where the tourist will find the cultural and commercial hub of the city. In this region you will find the cathedral and various aspects of the old town.

Museums: Zagreb has some great museums. The prime example is Muzej Mimara which houses many works of art including works by Rembrandt, Goya, Gainsborough and Turner. There are more than 1500 exhbits so plenty to enjoy!

Mirogoj: The central cemetery of Zagreb is very impressive and contains many notable Croatian graves. Well worth a visit.

Getting Around

Zagreb Card: If you are staying for several days it is worthwhile buying a Zagreb card. This gives unlimited public transport as well as discounted admission to museums and further discounts at restaurants etc.

Trams: There are 15 tram lines that operate during daytime hours. The service is clean and efficient.

Taxis: Taxis are very expensive in Zagreb so be aware!
